What is GovAI
GovAI is a whole-of-government service designed to uplift artificial intelligence (AI) capability across the Australian Public Service (APS). It enables APS staff, teams, and agencies to learn about AI, experiment safely, and apply AI tools to improve public service delivery. Whether you're just starting out with AI fundamentals, refining your prompting skills, or building custom solutions, GovAI provides tailored pathways to support your journey.

Our background
The Minister for Finance, Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher, agreed to the GovAI pilot in May 2024. This agreement helps deliver the strategic aims of the Policy for the responsible use of AI in government(Opens in a new tab/window) in uplifting Artificial Intelligence capability across the APS.
Proven delivery for the APS
GovAI is being operated by the Department of Finance (Finance). The department has a strong track recording of delivering successful enabling services for the APS, including:
