GovAI is whole-of-government pilot service developed to uplift Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability across all APS agencies. It provides a secure environment for APS staff to explore and learn about AI, discover practical AI applications, and collaborate with others. By supporting responsible experimentation and learning, GovAI contributes to a modern, productive, and digitally confident public sector.

GovAI and AI CoLab are complementary initiatives with distinct purposes: 

• GovAI offers a secure space for APS agencies to explore, learn, and collaborate on AI applications.
• AI CoLab, is a cross-sector collective impact initiative that provides an opportunity for APS to work with states and territories, private sector, not-for-profits and academia to co-design safe and effective AI tools for public good.

Together, they support capability uplift and ethical AI innovation across the APS.

APS staff benefit from GovAI in several ways:

• Access to a secure environment to explore AI tools and concepts.
• Practical training through the Interactive Learning Environment and the Knowledge Hub.
• A searchable Use Case Library showcasing real AI projects in the APS.
• Opportunities to collaborate with peers and experts across government.
• Sandbox environment to help safely experiment with and build AI applications.

These resources help staff build confidence, accelerate innovation, and apply AI responsibly in their work.

GovAI is designed to enhance public sector productivity, service delivery, and decision-making. By providing a safe space for AI experimentation and collaboration, it helps agencies reduce duplication, share lessons learned, and build a shared capability uplift. Over time, this will lead to more efficient, transparent, and innovative public services.

GovAI supports cross-agency learning by providing access to tools, templates, lessons learned, and curated news. The Collaboration Space, hosted on the GovTEAMS Engage platform, enables APS staff to connect, share ideas, and co-develop AI solutions. This fosters a more connected and collaborative APS AI community.

Yes. To access GovAI, you must have an active GovTEAMS OFFICIAL full access account. This ensures that only APS staff can securely access the service. GovAI uses GovTEAMS authentication to maintain a trusted environment, avoid additional licensing costs for agencies, and support seamless cross-agency collaboration. If you don’t yet have an account, you can register here. Once active, you’ll be able to log into GovAI using your @govteams.gov.au email address.

No. GovAI is designed specifically for Commonwealth (APS) use. At this stage, access is not available to state government employees or GovTEAMS users with Guest accounts. However, our public-facing website may still offer valuable insights, resources, and updates that state agencies can explore.

GovTEAMS provides a secure, cost-effective, and APS-wide authentication solution. It allows GovAI to:

• Limit access to verified APS staff.
• Leverage existing licences to reduce overhead.
• Enable collaboration across agencies without technical barriers.

While GovAI is exploring alternative authentication options for future phases, GovTEAMS currently offers the most practical and secure foundation for service delivery.

Industry partners may access GovAI only if sponsored through a GovTEAMS Partner Membership and actively working with a government client already onboarded to the sandbox environment. The sponsoring agency must contact the GovAI team directly to initiate access, as specific conditions must be met.

Ensure you're using your GovTEAMS credentials (firstname.lastname@govteams.gov.au), not your agency login. Using an agency account will result in access errors.

Conflicts between Agency credentials or multiple active sessions can prevent access.

Try the following:

• Use an InPrivate or Incognito browser window.
• Log out of other APS platforms before accessing GovAI.
• Clear your browser cache and cookies.
• Use a different browser than the one you use for agency work (e.g. Chrome for GovAI, Edge for agency tasks).

If you’ve tried all troubleshooting steps and still can’t access GovAI, escalate to:

• Your internal IT team to check firewall or access policies
• Check with your internal GovTEAMS Organisation Admin who can assist with license approvals.
