GovAI Chat trials give APS staff early access to the app.

You can use GovAI Chat as part of your everyday tasks and share feedback to shape future versions.

We run trials to help us understand the benefits, limitations, real-world risks, usability, accessibility, and workforce impacts. This learning informs future rollout decisions.

Beta trial launches 27 July 2026

The beta trial is the second GovAI Chat trial.

The beta app will provide all the same features as alpha as well as:

  • new agency single sign on solutions
  • new models
  • better web search
  • better large-document handling
  • continued free access.

The app continues to support publicly available and OFFICIAL information only.

Some features are still being developed. Bugs and limitations are expected.

A glowing purple brain icon sits at the centre, connected by thin lines to floating panels showing charts, a robot icon, a cube, and an image placeholder, each marked with a check symbol. The illustration uses soft gradients in purple, blue, and orange with a clean, modern technology aesthetic.

Eligibility for beta

To take part you must:

  • be an APS employee (contractors may be eligible depending on your agency)
  • use a government-managed device
  • work at an agency that has agreed to take part.

Your role

We’ll ask participants to commit 1 hour per week to:

  • use GovAI Chat for tasks you need to complete as part of your everyday role
  • complete short surveys
  • join optional drop in sessions
  • raise issues or risks.

How to join

Minimalist vector illustration of three people collaborating around a large digital interface. One person stands on a ladder adjusting a chart, another lifts interface panels into place, and a third interacts with a control point on the screen. The scene uses soft gradients in purple, blue, and orange on a light grey background, with small geometric accents adding a modern technology feel.

Alpha trial

The GovAI Chat alpha trial finished on 30 June.

Alpha participants can continue to use GovAI Chat alpha until their agency transitions to beta.

The feedback we received from alpha participants is integral to shaping how the APS uses AI safely and effectively in the future.
